Dr. Akash Sridhar, a top computer architecture expert, has made history by being awarded the prestigious title of Fellow by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

The IET is one of the largest and most distinguished professional engineering organizations in the world, and the Fellowship is awarded only to those individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary achievements in engineering, technology, or related disciplines through sustained international acclaim.

Dr. Sridhar, who is just 30 years old, is one of the youngest ever recipients of the Fellowship and the youngest Indian to be given this honor. The average age of a newly elected IET Fellow is usually above 45, and the Fellowship is only awarded to a very small percentage of IET members who have risen to the very top of their field.

This makes Dr. Sridhar's achievement even more remarkable.

Dr. Akash Sridhar’s Research Background And Current Status

Dr. Sridhar received his Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and his primary research area is computer architecture, with a specific focus on branch prediction.

Branch prediction is a critical performance bottleneck for CPUs, and Dr. Sridhar's Ph.D. dissertation, "Load Drive Branch Predictor (LDBP)", addresses this problem by proposing a novel branch predictor that minimizes branch misprediction caused by random load data.

LDBP overcomes the limitations of current branch predictors by having near-perfect prediction accuracy for data-dependent branches whose outcome is influenced by random data.

His research works have been praised, used, and cited by top computer architecture experts worldwide, and he is also an active contributor in the open-source software domain, with tools he has contributed to being used by top US universities as a part of their curriculum.

Currently, Dr. Sridhar works as a Senior CPU Architect at Qualcomm, California. He plays a critical role in the team that architects Qualcomm’s CPUs, which power millions of Android-based mobile phones throughout the world.

Dr. Sridhar's expertise in computer architecture and branch prediction enables him to contribute towards the design of Qualcomm's next-generation high-performance CPUs.

Background On The IET

The IET is a renowned institution that speaks for engineering professionals who are dedicated to advocating for matters of public concern and helping governments educate the public about the importance of engineering and technology.

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) was created through the merger of two venerable institutions: the Institution of Electrical Engineers (IEE), which has its origins in 1871, and the Institution of Incorporated Engineers (IIE), which was established in 1884.

As a result, the IET is able to draw on centuries’ worth of knowledge and experience, making it one of the foremost authorities on engineering and technology-related matters.

It has more than 169,000 members in more than 150 countries around the world.

Some of the renowned Fellow of the IET include Alexander Graham Bell (inventor of the telephone), Guglielmo Marconi (Nobel laureate and inventor of the radio), Sir Tim Berners-Lee (inventor of the World Wide Web), and many others Nobel laureates.

Dr. Akash Sridhar's achievement in the field of computer architecture is exceptional, and his appointment as a Fellow of the IET is a recognition of his extraordinary contributions to the engineering and technology community.

His appointment as a Fellow of IET at such a young age is a testament to his exceptional achievements in the field, and it will serve as an inspiration for many others to follow.

Dr. Akash Continues To Contribute To The Computer Architecture Domain

Dr. Akash Sridhar ambitiously plans to contribute to computer architecture and other related domains in the future. At the age of 30, he has already made several game-changing contributions to the field of computer architecture.

His research works aim to increase the performance capabilities of CPUs and solve crucial research challenges, opening new avenues for innovation in the computer architecture domain.
