Science fiction authors gave life to books that became prophetic in the world of technology and business. Today, technology has made it possible for Web 3.0 to fall into this category, combining technological advancement with bold dreams.
Two decades ago, few people could seriously think about the existence of a meta-universe that would combine exchanges, workspaces, and places for entertainment. But today, such prospects are serious enough for one of the largest corporations in the world. Facebook has officially changed its name to Meta. What should we expect next?
The rise of Web 3.0
You have probably been a witness to the rise of Web 1.0 and its transformation into Web 2.0. Web 1.0 was about static websites, the main function of which was to provide information. The emergence of the ability to share information and data marked the beginning of Web 2.0. The distinguishing characteristic of the Web 2.0 standard was social networks, which have become an integral part of human life.
The creation of Blockchain technology, which is a decentralized database with the ability to change in real-time, gave rise to the Web 3.0 standard. Decentralization and transparency have become driving forces for the development of solutions based on the Web 3.0 standard.
Cryptocurrencies became the "flagship" of Web 3.0 as a tool for transferring and accumulating funds without intermediaries (e.g., banks and exchanges).
At once, with the development of cryptocurrencies, various crypto assets began to appear. They could be exchanged for fiat money, cryptocurrencies, or other types of assets, such as NFT (Non-Fungible Tokens). Everyone got the opportunity to issue such tokens and receive a considerable profit. At the same time, a token in most cases does not have a physical asset that could be transferred to the owner upon purchase.
Other key elements of Web 3.0 were Smart contracts and the Internet of Things (IoT). These tools allow users to automate transactions and their verification. Such approaches have reduced the impact of the human factor and enhanced the security of Web 3.0.
Development and perspectives of Web 3.0
If you have finished the previous paragraphs and remained interested, congratulations. You are a Web 3.0 enthusiast. After all, the difficulty of understanding Web 3.0 impedes its popularization. Sure, the best technology experts in the industry are racking their brains to simplify key products. At the same time, the abundance of tokens and decentralized applications of the new generation of dApps indicates that mass migration is not far off. And the main impetus for a sharp increase in popularity should be the meta-universe.
Metaverse is a combination of Web 3.0, virtual reality, and augmented reality. Web 3.0 should become a decentralized basis for the creation and existence of virtual communities with their own tokens, cryptocurrencies, and rules. The Metaverse will unite these spaces into a single world with the possibility of cryptocurrency conversion, token exchange, communication, work, business, and entertainment. The two main points of gravity when it comes to Web 3.0 are the unification on one platform for the destruction of borders and the absence of centralized control.
The rise and future of this technology
What will an ordinary day of a human being look like in the new metauniverse? You will wake up at a convenient time for you, which is likely to be calculated by an implanted chip or device. Modern applications already have such functionality, and the chips presented by Elon Musk's Neuralink company make their implementation a matter of time. Presumably, you will be constantly connected to the neural network. Thus, you will be able to constantly exchange information with other participants. Of course, there will be no forced connection, but the advantages of such a device will make it an integral part of everyday life.
Then you will go for a walk or jog, which your device will recommend to you based on your daily routine and health indicators. And when you return home, take a shower and have breakfast, you will join the virtual space. There your colleagues from different parts of the world will be waiting for you in the virtual office. You will be able to choose virtual clothes - sneakers, a suit, or even completely replace your avatar with a new one you bought with your last salary.
After the meetings, you will return to the virtual workplace to complete your tasks. You may need to virtually visit a factory in Berlin or Canberra. You will be able to do this with the help of a local drone, which provides a first-person view of the local production facilities.
After work, you will meet your colleagues in a virtual bar. And if you decide to visit a local restaurant today, an automated electric taxi will pick you up and drop you off, automatically charging your account. Finally, before going to bed, you will once again visit your favorite beach in Costa Rica with the help of virtual reality – because you plan to relax there for a month.
This prediction is already pretty convincing, but it does not take into account the potential cognitive and physiological improvements that will be available with new technologies. Web 3.0 is a new level of communication, business, and human development. All we have to do is to preserve the planet and the humanity that should live to see its implementation.
