If you’re seeing this interview draft, it means you’ve recently published on HackerNoon a story that the community found interesting and/or valuable. For this reason, we would like to help the community get to know you better as well as find out some writing tips from you.

While this template is automatic, our interest in the answers below is genuine and our human editors (and some cyborg wannabes) will review it before publishing.

Hello! My name is Davide Carmeci. I am a growth expert with a hands-on approach, specializing in working with cybersecurity companies. I focus on developing products that aid IT security practitioners and teams, recognizing that automation alone cannot address all cyber challenges. My role involves defining and executing Go-To-Market strategies, as well as hands-on sales planning, to support these companies in achieving their growth objectives.

Interesting! What was your latest Hackernoon Top story about?

In my latest article, I share tips and tricks that I have learned throughout my career to support beginners who are not self-learners in taking their initial steps into cybersecurity. One of the most challenging and fascinating aspects of this field is the skills gap. The industry is well-known for its vacancies, with 4 million positions remaining unfilled in 2023. This shortfall is not only a primary reason for the increase in cyber threats but also presents an opportunity for many beginners to start their careers in one of the most challenging and exciting areas of tech.

Do you usually write on similar topics? If not, what do you usually write about?

Tech education is one of my favorite topics. The full potential of all emerging technologies, like AI, blockchain technology, the Internet of Things (IoT), and quantum computing, can only be realized if the training industry, which includes both Ed-Tech and institutional educators, keeps pace with the latest trends. It's crucial for these sectors to offer accessible channels that enable tomorrow's talent to find career paths in these rapidly evolving fields. By keeping up with developments in these areas, educators can prepare a skilled workforce ready to harness the power of these new technologies and ensure that innovations are effectively integrated into our evolving digital landscape.

I also enjoy writing about AI, particularly on the checks and balances necessary within the ecosystem to implement models that minimize biases. It's crucial to raise awareness among users that AI systems are not sources of objective truth; rather, they are heavily influenced by the people who select their training data. This understanding is key to responsibly developing and using AI technology.

Great! What is your usual writing routine like (if you have one?)

I don’t have a specific routine; most of the ideas for my articles come from real-life conversations that I have with colleagues or friends who are experts in their respective fields. This approach ensures that the topics I write about are not only relevant but also grounded in practical experience rather than just theoretical knowledge.

Being a writer in tech can be a challenge. It’s not often our main role, but an addition to another one. What is the biggest challenge you have when it comes to writing?

I take pleasure in writing about highly technical topics in a style that is accessible and easy to understand for a broad audience. Maintaining the balance between accurately describing a piece of technology and using language that is simple to understand without falling into the trap of oversimplification or inaccuracy is a subtle art. It continually tests my storytelling abilities, challenging me to convey complex ideas in an engaging and comprehensible manner.

What is the next thing you hope to achieve in your career?

I am passionate about continuing to work with companies that are community-driven. In the age of AI and low-code development, developing and launching a new product has almost become a commodity. However, the real challenge lies in creating a product that can significantly impact the lives of its user community. This is why I particularly enjoy working in the area of cybersecurity education. In this field, promoting the right product can truly make a difference.

Wow, that’s admirable. Now, something more casual: What is your guilty pleasure of choice?

Despite the lack of time, I am still a gamer at heart, and when possible, I still like to challenge my friends to a game of Fifa soccer.

Do you have a non-tech-related hobby? If yes, what is it?

I still enjoy going to a movie theater (when the movie is worth it) and collecting vinyl records.

What can the Hacker Noon community expect to read from you next?

I have almost finished writing an article about the silent heroes of the cybersecurity communities: the blue teams, aka the people in charge of defending networks and systems against cyber attacks.

What’s your opinion on HackerNoon as a platform for writers?

It’s great because it offers the most scarce and valuable resource these days: attention from readers with the will to dig deeper and understand the roots of complex issues.

Thanks for taking time to join our “Meet the writer” series. It was a pleasure. Do you have any closing words?

Thank you for having me in your 'Meet the Writer' series. It’s been a pleasure. Stay positive and always prioritize people over products. Strong relationships are the key to success.
