00:00yeah i would just suggest the it 00:01 fundamentals that's what you should 00:02 learn all right so if you're an 00:04 individual who wants to get started in 00:06 the it or cyber security industry and 00:09 you're wondering where should i start or 00:10 what should i learn before in today's 00:12 video topic i will be addressing my 00:14 personal opinion on what you should 00:16 learn why you should learn what you 00:17 should learn and where you should learn 00:22 [Music] 00:25 alright so by now you should know it's 00:27 the ic fundamentals that's what i think 00:29 you should learn you can go ahead and 00:30 click off this video but if you want a 00:32 little bit more detail you can continue 00:34 on what exactly are the it fundamentals 00:36 well in my opinion they outline a few 00:39 different surrounding categories 00:41 including hardware which are the 00:43 physical parts of a computer and 00:44 computing devices you have the software 00:47 which is a suite of tools and data which 00:49 you know tell the computer how to work 00:50 including operating systems software 00:53 applications and more so think about 00:54 like a windows 10 or linux then you have 00:57 networking which is the exchange and 01:00 transportation of data between computing 01:03 devices so understanding how that works 01:05 applications which is computer software 01:07 or programs used to carry out specific 01:10 tasks you know such as word processing 01:12 or editing or email clients and then you 01:15 have the security basics my favorite 01:17 right understanding the added elements 01:19 on top of the listed uh elements or 01:21 categories that i just 01:23 outlined now i personally believe if you 01:26 started from the very beginning you're 01:27 going to set yourself up for a better 01:29 success and i'll tell you that reason in 01:31 a moment now while learning the it 01:33 fundamentals it's important to keep in 01:34 mind some essential concepts and skills 01:37 required within the it industry and this 01:40 includes skills such as configuring and 01:42 troubleshooting 01:44 [Music] 01:47 just like anything that you learn in 01:49 school you gotta first understand the 01:51 basics of course you could just throw 01:53 yourself deep into the woods and have no 01:54 idea what's going on and maybe yes you 01:56 could complete the problem but let's 01:59 just say you want to complete some 02:01 complex math equation well you have to 02:04 know the basics of the symbols 02:06 subtraction addition such as this nice 02:08 complex math equation i think you 02:12 i don't know how to do this 02:14 you know those or if you want to get a 02:16 little spicy and you want to mix some 02:18 elements together you got to know the 02:20 periodic table i think i don't really 02:22 know i'm not a chemistry major well the 02:24 same goes for it in my opinion you get 02:26 the point now sure you could provision a 02:28 kali linux vm and you could use john 02:30 ripper and start cracking those facebook 02:32 passwords don't actually do that or you 02:35 know you can throw yourself deep into 02:36 the woods of a project and sometimes 02:38 that method works but the question 02:40 becomes if you have no technological or 02:43 any i.t skills background how do you 02:46 know you know what to secure in the 02:48 context of cyber security if you don't 02:50 even know how the technology tool 02:52 principle concept works right if you 02:55 can't understand what a layer 2 switch 02:57 does from you know a high level overview 02:59 how do you know you're going to need to 03:01 apply port security you know in the 03:03 context of a layer 2 switch well you 03:06 won't know because you don't know how a 03:07 layer 2 switch works in the high level 03:09 and that's why i suggest the it 03:11 fundamentals it's great way to get the 03:13 basics down you can build those 03:15 foundational skills and then you can 03:17 throw yourself into the woods of you 03:19 know kali linux if you want to 03:22 [Music] 03:24 there are hundreds of resources out 03:25 there both free and affordable alright 03:28 one moment of self promo you can skip to 03:29 this time stamp if you don't care about 03:31 this but there are free courses i have 03:33 out there one is on udemy it's a 03:35 complete introduction to cyber security 03:37 right so this is going to be a very high 03:39 level overview of cyber security in i.t 03:41 and we address some of the very basics 03:44 such as 03:45 hardware and networking devices so why 03:48 not just give away the course for free 03:49 if you're watching this in the next 03:51 three days of this upload you can go 03:53 sign up for it 03:54 for free but i do also have another 03:56 course it's more of a very much so 03:58 practical hands-on course that i had 04:00 released last year and i added some a 04:03 few updates to it this is a great course 04:06 to get started and now enough for the 04:08 cell promo all right so some platforms 04:10 include free code cam they have a plenty 04:12 of crash courses out there udemy has 04:15 plenty of basic it courses you have 04:18 plenty of youtube crash courses i'll 04:20 leave some that i think are noteworthy 04:23 including ones that are released from 04:25 google itself which is a great way to 04:27 start a humble bundle which is a book 04:29 provider in the form of ebooks that you 04:32 can see and find if there are any 04:34 bundles out there one more thing to note 04:36 and that is three is a great place to 04:38 start with my beginners course it's a 04:40 lot of theory not so much practical or 04:42 hands-on you gotta get started with 04:44 understanding the concepts 04:46 but 04:47 one thing to note is to have a hands-on 04:49 practical approach once you've maybe 04:51 started some of those basics i have a 04:53 resources page with a complete list of 04:56 projects you can just check out it's all 04:58 free you don't have to worry about 04:59 paying 05:00 and you can just look at the different 05:02 resources project ideas and how to go 05:04 about solving those projects on that 05:07 website this video has been short i hope 05:08 it's been useful and helpful i did this 05:11 video a few years ago and i thought i 05:13 would go ahead and provide an update for 05:14 2021 so i hope everything is well and 05:18 until the next video have a good day English (auto-generated) AllComputer securitySecurity hackersListenableRelatedWatched
